  ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Tom Sandri, Director of training services

Tom Sandri is an industry veteran of 30+ years.  Tom spent many years in the field at Philadelphia Electric.  You can still find remnants of Tom's first stint at Protec on Youtube.  He spent the next 10 years at Shermco Industries, helping to build their training services department while developing internal and external SCORM-compliant online training modules.  Tom still found time to do on-site training.  Now back at Protec, Tom has built a large portfolio of training offerings that include:

  • Self‐Study Computer Based Training (CBT) on our in-house Learning Management System (LMS) with 1-on-1 Instructor Review
  • Online Instructor‐led Training (Virtual Classroom)
  • eLearning and Classroom (Blended Learning)
  • Monthly Live "Third Thursday" Webinars & "Power Hour" Podcasts

Hands-On Lab Exercise

During the hands-on lab, the learner will demonstrate their protection knowledge by building upon the risk assessments started in Section 3.  The learner will demonstrate the proper PPE selection and donning based on the incident energy energy analysis method described in NFPA 70E and CSA Z462.

Electrical safety training requirements applies to employees exposed to an electrical hazard when the risk associated with that hazard is not reduced to a safe level by the applicable electrical installation requirements. Such employees shall be trained to understand the specific hazards associated with electrical energy. They shall be trained in safety-related work practices and procedural requirements, as necessary, to provide protection from the electrical hazards associated with their respective job or task assignments.

Electrical safety training offerings are based on OSHA and NFPA 70E® requirements and guidelines as well as Canadian, OHS and CSA Z462.  Retraining in electrical safety-related work practices and applicable changes in industry standards such as NFPA-70E and CSA Z462 shall be performed at intervals not to exceed 3 years.

SCHEDULE:
Day 1 - 8:00am - 4:00pm CST (with 15-minute morning and afternoon breaks + 1 hour lunch break)
Day 2 - 8:00am - 4:00pm CST (with 15-minute morning and afternoon breaks + 1 hour lunch break)
Day 3 - 8:00 am - 12:00pm CST (with 15-minute morning break)

What is a Qualified Worker?

Electrical safety for the qualified worker training is aimed at qualified electrical workers to help them build capabilities, knowledge and safe work practices when working around energized electrical systems.

So, who is a qualified electrical worker? To answer that, let’s look at the legislative definition of qualified...

"Qualified" means one who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his/her ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject matter, the work, or the project.

As we can see, a qualified worker is simply someone who is trained and knowledgeable about the tasks he/she will be performing. He/she must be able to identify and protect themselves from all the hazards associated with the task and be able to demonstrate proficiency.

What Does That Actually Mean? EXPERIENCE and TRAINING!
